Information

BTS, also known as Bangtan Boys, is a South Korean group formed in 2010, who have invaded hearts since their debut in 2013 with the song No More Dream. It consists of seven members: Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook. Despite being created with a primarily hip hop style, they have come to incorporate a wide variety of genres into their musical repertoire. They debuted under Big Hit Entertainment with the single album ‘2 Cool 4 Skool’. Since then, they have achieved global success and have become one of the most influential groups in pop music, breaking several records and winning multiple awards. Their music spans genres such as K-pop, pop, hip hop, R&B (jazz-based, up-tempo, up-tempo music with an insistent beat) and EDM (electronic and dance elements, intense and energetic beats).

I’m sure you’ve heard of Shawn Mendes, Ed Sheeran, Charlie Puth, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber? Well, you might be surprised to hear that all of these singers are part of the biggest fandom in the world, the BTS fandom, ARMY, a huge fandom that has driven BTS to be who they are today.

BTS has been a source of great inspiration for many people around the world, for the following reasons:

  • Self-acceptance and self-love: The lyrics encourage listeners to accept themselves as they are and to love themselves. The LOVEYOURSELF triology of albums specifically teaches us these values, in particular Answer: Love Myself (a profound song that closes this series) at the beginning talks about being lost and lonely, as it progresses, the message changes, at the end, it emphasises that true love begins when we stop hiding and accept ourselves as we are.
  • Fight stereotypes and prejudices: even if some people think they don’t deserve all this fame, only real ARMYs know what they have faced, the criticism and hate they have received, and what it has taken to get there.
  • Community and connection: Through their music, BTS has created a bond and connection between people from different countries, cultures and backgrounds.
  • Hard work and passion: BTS is a group that is an architect of their success, known for their tireless work ethic and dedication to music. This has inspired their listeners to pursue their dreams with passion and hard work, teaching us that we can achieve anything if we work hard and give our best at every moment.
  • Friendship: In addition to being known worldwide for their music, they also convey messages about friendship and unity in their songs. In several interviews they have spoken about the importance of supporting each other. The relationship between them is very close, as they have shared experiences, challenges and successes together over the years. They not only consider themselves members of a K-Pop band but also consider themselves family.
